JoLLE Publication Ethics

i) Journal policies on authorship and contributorship:
Authorship of the manuscript
The authorship criteria for listing individuals as authors on a manuscript require that they are able to take public responsibility for the content. To meet these criteria, individuals must have made significant contributions to the study’s conception, design, execution, data acquisition, or analysis/interpretation, and either drafted the manuscript or revised it critically for important intellectual content. They must have also seen and approved the final version of the paper and agreed to its submission for publication. Individuals who have made substantial contributions to the work reported in the manuscript but do not meet the criteria for authorship should not be listed as authors. However, they should be acknowledged in the “Acknowledgements” section after their written permission to be named has been obtained. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate coauthors (according to the above definition) are included in the author list and that no inappropriate co-authors are included. Additionally, the corresponding author must verify that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.
ii) How the journal will handle complaints and appeals;
If a contributor wants to raise a complaint or an appeal about an editor’s decision or a review, they can email the principal editor at jolle.principal.editor@gmail.com. The email should clearly state their concerns regarding the review. In case the principal editor is the subject of the complaint, contributors can email the managing editor at jolle.submissions@gmail.com. If contributors have any complaints about the review process, they can email the managing editor at jolle.submissions@gmail.com. The Principal Editor and/or Managing Editor(s) will evaluate the contributor’s argument to decide whether the complaint or appeal warrants a change in decision, an additional review, or another adjustment to address the contributor’s concerns.
iii) Journal policies on conflicts of interest / competing interests;
Authors are required to declare any conflict of interest in their cover letter.
Editors are prohibited from using unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for their own research purposes without the explicit written consent of the authors. If editors obtain privileged information or ideas as a result of handling a manuscript, they must keep this information confidential and refrain from using it for personal gain. When editors have conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships/connections with the authors, companies, or institutions related to the papers, they will recuse themselves from considering such manuscripts. In such cases, another member of the editorial board will be assigned to handle the manuscript.
iv) Journal policies on data sharing and reproducibility;
We do not require data sharing from our authors.
v) Journal’s policy on ethical oversight;
Policy on Ethical Oversight
To maintain ethical standards, editors will ensure that oversight covers several aspects, including obtaining consent for publication, safeguarding vulnerable populations when publishing research, maintaining ethical standards while conducting studies involving animals or human subjects, and protecting data confidentiality. Suspicion of violations of the ethical oversight policy should be made to the principal editor at jolle.principal.editor@gmail.com
Errors in Published Works
If authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they are responsible for notifying the journal’s editors or publisher immediately and cooperating with them to either correct the paper in the form of an erratum or retract the paper. If the editors become aware of significant errors or inaccuracies in a published work through a third party, then the authors must promptly correct or retract the paper. Alternatively, they should provide evidence to the journal editors proving that the paper is correct.
Involvement and Cooperation in Investigations
The editors will take appropriate action when ethical concerns are raised regarding a submitted manuscript or published paper. All reports of unethical publishing behavior, even those discovered years after publication, will be thoroughly examined. The JoLLE editors follow the COPE Flowcharts for handling suspected misconduct cases. If the investigation confirms the ethical concern, the journal will publish a correction, retraction, expression of concern, or any other note that may be relevant.
vi) Journal’s policy on intellectual property;
Acknowledgment of sources Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that is an observation, derivation, or argument that has been reported in previous publications should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also notify the editors of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other manuscript (published or unpublished) of which they have personal knowledge.
Reporting standards
 Authors of original research should provide an accurate and original account of the work performed and its results. They should also provide a comprehensive discussion of the significance of the work. Making fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements is considered unethical and unacceptable.
Originality and plagiarism
Authors should ensure that their work is original and entirely written by them. If they use the work or words of others, they should appropriately cite the source. Publications that have influenced the work being reported in the manuscript should also be cited. Plagiarism in any form, from presenting someone else’s paper as the author’s own, to copying or paraphrasing significant parts of another’s work without attribution, to claiming results from research conducted by others, is considered unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
Multiple, duplicate, redundant, or concurrent submission/publication
Papers that describe the same research should not be published in more than one journal or primary publication. Authors should not submit for consideration a manuscript that has already been published in another journal. Simultaneous submission is not accepted. In some cases, submitting some types of manuscripts, such as poems, in more than one journal is acceptable, but the authors must inform JoLLE editors immediately if their artworks are accepted by another journal. Authors who wish to reprint any JoLLE-published articles should seek permission from the JoLLE editor and cite JoLLE as the original publication.
vii) Journal’s options for post-publication discussions and corrections.
Errors in published works
If authors find significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they must notify the journal’s editors or publisher promptly and cooperate with them to correct the paper through an erratum or retract the paper. In case the editors become aware of a significant error or inaccuracy in a published work from a third party, the authors must also promptly correct or retract the paper. Alternatively, they should provide evidence to the journal editors proving that the paper is correct.
