The Journal of Language & Literacy Education (JoLLE, ISSN #1559-9035) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal housed in the Department of Language & Literacy Education in the College of Education at The University of Georgia. Since its inception in 2004, JoLLE has provided a space for scholars to engage readers in a broad spectrum of issues related to the field. As an online journal, we encourage submissions that incorporate multiple modes (e.g., photographs, artwork, video, and graphics).
JoLLE is a peer-reviewed journal housed in the Language and Literacy Education department at The University of Georgia. We publish two issues each year: one in the fall and one in the spring. Typically one issue is not themed while one issue is aligned with the theme of that year’s JoLLE@UGA Conference which is held each February. JoLLE reviews books that are relevant to both scholars and practitioners regarding our focus on language and literacy education. We welcome books from publishers and encourage teachers and researchers to participate in the review of books for JoLLE. CYAL Book Reviews
We are excited to announce that beginning with Volume 10, Issue 2, JoLLE will launch the Children and Young Adult Literature (CYAL) Book Review section of the journal. Students and teachers will review children’s and young adult literature that supports engagement with textual literacy for both classrooms and individual learners. We review newly released and soon-to-be-released texts designed for the pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade audience. Topics address issues of social justice, provide voice for marginalized youth, foster discussion regarding children’s concerns, offer accessibility through low-level, high interests texts and promote cross-curricular lessons in the classroom. Scholars Speak Out (SSO)
Each month JoLLE publishes an op-ed essay on our Scholars Speak Out page of the site. These pieces are meant to highlight different (typically current) concerns and/or interests in the field from a variety of voices including teacher educators, teachers, students, and researchers. Poetry and Art
JoLLE accepts poetry and art related to issues of language and literacy education. For the spring issue, we would like submissions to also relate to the conference theme of Embodied and Participatory Literacies. We accept un-themed art and poetry at all times. Works of art can include photos, paintings, drawings, comics or other forms of visual art.
