Academic Book Review Guidelines

Academic reviews entail critical readings of academic texts for practitioners or researchers. Reviewers are encouraged to bring outside texts, experiences, or understandings to deepen the understandings of the text. There could also be connections to teaching or applications to instruction. Reviews should include a brief summary of the book accompanied by critical evaluation of strengths and weaknesses of the text, and the book’s pertinence to certain audiences. There must be depth or critical thinking evident and the ability to incorporate and synthesize various texts and ideas.
Reviews are in general between 5 t0 8 pages double-spaced, with demarcated sections. All text should be Word files written in 12 point Times New Roman.  Submissions should begin with the APA citation of the text with the reviewer name and affiliation below, preceded by “Reviewed by:”.  The text of your review should follow APA guidelines, but also include first-person perspectives that offer the particular reader-response of the reviewer.
For additional information on book reviews, please refer to the Education Review website.
