Aims and Scope

The Journal of Language & Literacy Education (JoLLE, ISSN #1559-9035) is a double-masked, peer-reviewed, open access, scholarly journal housed in the Department of Language & Literacy Education in the College of Education at The University of Georgia. JoLLE publishes two issues each year: one in the fall and one in the spring. The fall issue is comprised of open submissions, and the spring issue is aligned with the theme of that year’s JoLLE@UGA® Winter Conference. For each of the two annual issues, each produced during a semester on the academic calendar, JoLLE employs social media and other web-based platforms to make all material immediately available for free download to any visitor.

Since its first issue in 2005, JoLLE has provided a space for scholars to engage readers in a broad spectrum of issues related to the field. As an online journal, we encourage submissions that incorporate multiple modes (e.g., photographs, artwork, video, and graphics). JoLLE understands “language and literacy” to include not only reading and writing, but other elements such as the social, cultural, and historical contexts of language and literacy learning and teaching; ongoing changes in communication tools and practices in the 21st century; and issues involving first and multiple language acquisition and use, regardless of semiotic systems involved.

Submit all questions and inquiries about the journal and potential submissions to jolle@uga.edu. In conjunction with emerging modes of scholarly expression, JoLLE publishes research reports, theoretical papers, research reviews, practitioner perspectives, poetry and art, academic book reviews, and children and young adult literature book reviews by both adults and children. In addition to the two issues, JoLLE publishes a monthly Scholars Speak Out essay and features an article from its archives as a Take 2 re-publication accompanied by introductory essays by the original author and the JoLLE editorial board sponsor.

For more information or to submit a manuscript for review, see our submissions page or contact our principal editor at jolle@uga.edu.
