Poetry, Fiction, & Visual Arts
In the Spring 2023 issue of JoLLE, we are proud to present a Poetry, Fiction, & Visual Arts section that shares contextual experiences of visceral, instinctive, intellectual, evoked and responsive enactments of language and literacy. Collectively, these artistic renderings prompt considerations for the engagement of language, literacy, teaching, and learning in diverse contexts.

*Note on this issue’s cover art
From Jared Huisingh: The “Reflections” piece was originally a series of three paintings and sketches from class notes. The first painting was a replica/homage to Aaron Douglas’s “Untitled (seated man with head resting.)” The second was a self portrait that responded to my replica that centered some of the anxieties I was facing. The collage elements came from my notes during classes on CRT, my comics I wrote about media, and the third painting of the fractured shield/self-portrait reckoning with the state of the USA.
